Knowledge and practice in cochlear re-implantation in the UK- A survey for cochlear implant audiologists

The purpose of this survey is to understand your knowledge and practice as audiologists in cochlear re-implantation. Please select the answer(s) that best describe your experience and knowledge. The survey will take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.

No personally identifiable data is collected in the survey, however there are optional questions about your gender, patient group, location, education, and type of employment within the Audiology profession. If you are worried that you could be potentially identifiable by the combination of these responses, please consider omitting answers that might excessively narrow the range of possibilities (e.g. not telling us your gender if very few people of your gender work with your client group in your region, or tell us your gender but omit your region etc). If you are not concerned about this possibility, please answer all of the questions.
The findings of this survey are intended to be presented at BCIG conference and also published in a scientific journal.

Q.1
Gender

Q.2
What population of cochlear implant (CI) patients do you serve?

Q.3
In which part of the UK is your clinical practice?

Q.4
How long have you been working with CIs?

Q.5
What is your highest level of education?

Q.6
How many CIs does your centre implant per year?

Q.7
Which cochlear implant devices (manufacturers) are fitted at your centre?

Q.8
How many adult CI patients have you referred for a CI re-implantation over the last 12 months?

Q.9
How many paediatric CI patients have you referred for a CI re-implantation CI over the last 12 months?

Q.10
What is the reason(s) encountered in your practice for re-implantation (please select all that apply):

Q.11
Which factors, if any, make a patient not suitable for a CI re-implantation? Select all that apply:

Q.12
How familiar are you in assessing the functional performance and making programming changes in patients with suspected device failure?

Q.13
Which speech tests do you use for your decision to support adult CI re-implantation? Select all that apply:

Q.14
Which speech tests do you use for your decision to support paediatric CI re-implantation? Select all that apply:

Q.15
In paediatric CI, if re-implantation is necessary for one ear due to device failure, would your clinic consider re-implanting the contralateral ear at the same time?

Q.16
Please indicate your opinion on the following statements by selecting one of the options below:
Strongly agree Somewhat agree Neither agree nor disagree Somewhat disagree Strongly disagree
A CI user should experience a significant challenge in activities of daily living to be considered for re-implantation.
An CI integrity test is mandatory to consider a patient for re-implantation.
If a patient undergoes re-implantation should the patient be implanted with same electrode design and manufacturer?

Q.17
If for the question above you disagree or strongly disagreed to re-implant with the same electrode design/manufacture, please comment why:

Q.18
At what point of the CI pathway would you discuss the need for re-implantation with adult CI patients?
